Local string group Eclettico put the Uptown Funk in Downtown Marquette at Donckers last Friday night.

Love the strings, but it is so easy to miss the brass line that made Uptown Funk a hit.

This version of Marc Ronson’s hit with Bruno Mars has been used by many DJ’s around town and was the goal song for the Northern Michigan women’s club hockey team in their season finale on Sunday. It hit the top of the charts in more than a dozen countries and has already hit four-time platinum in Australia.

This isn’t the first time Eclettico has taken modern music and given it a string-section spin. The band has played everything from the Beatles to Lady Gaga at performances around the area.

The group named after the Italian word for eclectic is based out of Marquette with two functions: the first as a non-profit ensemble that focuses on education and outreach and the other as a quartet that plays at events. Many members play at Northern Michigan University, the Marquette Symphony Orchestra or many other musical groups in the area.

For more information about the band, their goal of bridging the gap between societal perceptions of modern music and classical music, visit the Eclettico Facebook page or website.
