Yesterday afternoon, Northern Arts & Entertainment took to their Facebook page to tease an upcoming artist announcement with a single hint: “He is a metro-Detroit native.”
Guesses on their page ranged from hip-hop artist Big Sean and Eminem to Rock stars like Kid Rock, Bob Seger and Alice Cooper. But in the end, NAE would reveal their next concert to be staring electronic music artist GRiZ.
Born Grant Kwiecinski, GRiZ is an up-and-coming electric producer, DJ and classically-trained saxophonist. Blending live instruments and intense visuals with his electric productions, his music breaks the synthesizer stereotype of most electronic music.
“GRiZ is someone who is unique,” said NAE’s Social Media Coordinator Chris Salgot. “Even if you’re not a fan of the genre, you will still have a great time at the show.
The show will be held on Thursday, April 3 and is the opening date of GRiZ’ “Power in Numbers” spring tour across the U.S according to ElectronicMidwest.com. However, the date will not include the Pretty Lights label-mate Michal Menert as the opening act.
According to NAE’s Social Media Coordinator, Chris Salgot, there are no “set in stone” plans for the opening act, but a contest allowing other local and regional acts to compete for the spot. Previously, NAE employed NMU’s own DJ Thaddeus Bloc & DJ No Name to open at other shows.
“We’re (NAE) thinking about doing a contest with local DJs to submit their song/mix to be voted on. Then the winner will open for GRiZ.”
This will be the second big name electronic act that NAE has brought to Northern Michigan University in as many years, as Big Gigantic performed at the Vandament Arena in April of 2012.
Tickets for the show will be made available to NMU students on February 24th for $15 in advance with public tickets going on sale March 3rd for $22. The show will be held at Northern Michigan University in the Vandament Arena, starting at 8:30 p.m..
Information on future shows are available on NAE’s Facebook page where they post all show information and routinely look for feedback on selections. NAE has also brought up country music star Rodney Atkins and The Second City Comedy Show earlier this school year.
