MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler Dalton Roberts was the top performer for Team USA, winning a gold medal at the Austria Junior Open Saturday (Feb. 28) in Gotzis, Austria.
Roberts of Fowlerville, Mich., went 2-0 in a three-athlete round robin in the 50-kilogram/110-pound weight class. He opened with a 5-3 win over Rinat Baltashev of Kazakhstan and clinched his gold with an 11-1 technical fall over Filippo Biondi of Italy.
Team USA ended the tournament in second place with 52 points. Kazakhstan finished first with 68 points and Denmark took third with 44 points. A total of 16 teams participated in the event.
The NMU team will stay in Austria for a seven-day training camp.
