Amanda Erspamer-Berry, a teacher at the Marquette Alternative High School, is trying to bring a $100,000 grant to her school and could use your help.

Farmers Insurance is sponsoring the Dream Big Teacher Challenge, where five teachers from different areas of the country will receive a $100,000 grant to tackle a major challenge in their schools as part of their Thank a Million Teachers promotion.

“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be a finalist for this grant and I hope that America can see that love we have for our students and share that love by voting for us,” Erspamer-Berry said in the profile video on the voting website.

She hopes to use the grant to build a fitness center while purchasing mountain bikes and other outdoor tools that will help students connect with the community. The grant will also help a collaboration project with the Marquette Food Co-op to provide nutrition classes and CPR/First Aid training, the website said.

Erspamer-Berry is in the North Central zone and is competing against Maggie Kendall of Chicago and LuAnn Lindskov of Timber Lake, S.D.. Kendall wants to use the funds to build an indoor arena for therapeutic horse riding while Lindskov wants to establish a program that helps teachers improve their teaching skills with impoverished rural students.

To vote on Erspamer-Berry’s project and others around the country, visit the Thank a Million Teachers website and click on the vote button under each video. Email verification is needed for each vote. Voting will continue until November 30 and voters can vote every day.
